Tuesday 1st July saw new London Mayor Boris Johnson host a party (sponsored by Aviva, formerly Norwich Union) for homos and their admirers at the City Hall in celebration of the forthcoming Gay Shame Pride:

Guests, ranging from Gaydar owner Henry Badenhorst to rights activist Peter Tatchell via gay rapper Q-boy, were treated to treats of wine, beer, fish, chips and some 80’s fag-pop to which no-body danced.

We were mildly entertained by Boris’ speech. He came across as an honest guy who knows a good punch-line – but someone who’s press-office are petrified of him going off message – and you could tell why. If it wasn’t a Tory standing there, it could have been a very much New Labour event – but with more one-liners.

On a totally different matter – the woman stood next to him signing tried to nick our chips later in the evening. Cheeky minx.

He was very good and a refreshing change from Ken Livingstone who badly blotted his copy book by kissing the arse of that Islamic fright Yusuf al-Qaradawi.
