Boy George, prison, drugs and you

One of Britain’s biggest gay stars has been sent to prison for falsely imprisoning rent boy Audun Carlsen. Although Boy George fully denied the allegations, police have on tape his confession.

Judge David Radford told the singer he was guilty of “gratuitous violence and that Carlsen was deprived of his liberty and human dignity without warning or proper explanation to him of its purpose, length or purported justification”.

The tragedy in all of this is the fact Boy George – a talented and creative man – has been addicted to drink and drugs for a number of years. In more recent years his behaviour became more and more erratic. He admitted he suffered from panic attacks and anxiety attacks – which he began to seek medical treatment for.

Personally, I met Boy George years ago. He lived around the corner from me in Shoreditch and we got chatting and he eventually invited me around for a cup of tea. Seriously – a cup of tea. This was Boy George. And before you start thinking – it was simply that. There was nothing sexual about it.
