According to prosecutors Ahmet Yildiz, an openly gay man, was shot five times as he left his apartment. His killer allegedly his father, who travelled 600 miles from his hometown to Istanbul. Yildiz’s body remains unclaimed by his family.
Yildiz was the only son of a deeply religious Kurdish family. His father wanted him to see a doctor and an iman in order to cure him of his homosexuality.
