GHB crackdown at Fire

Fire in Vauxhall – famous for Juicy, TOTO muscle boys and of course Fire-faces – is one of the first clubs in the country to employ sniffer dogs to prevent the use of GHB on the premises.

Already equipped with a medic room to deal with G casualties, the Fire management has decided extreme measures are needed. Michelle Nicolaou said: “On a busy night we see about three or four cases of people who’ve had an adverse reaction. We decided we needed to do more to stop the dealers.”

The black-labrador sniffer dog named Otis will be used around three hours each night every weekend.

Here’s a video that Fire resident videotronic Edson Costa produced about GHB:

  • Thanks heavens people are finally talking about the dangers of this drug. More gay men have died of G in the past few years than died of heroin at the height of the gay heroin club boom in the mid 80s. My doctor tells me the number of G-related deaths are massively under-reported. I know someone who's been hospitalised three times on G - why wasn't one time enough to put him off? Is it is a death wish? I just don't get it. Well done for highlighting this issue. Paul Burston
