MCKELLEN: LET’S DITCH THE WORD GAY

News by HOMOVISION on November 30, 2009 at 10:19 am

Sir Ian McKellen, off of Shakespeare, Lord of the Rings and every Stonewall event in history, has told a group of sixth formers that he feels the word “gay” should be dropped.

In a visit to Sudbury Upper School in Suffolk, organised by Stonewall, the actor said: “The word gay has become used as a derogatory term and this is something which education can help to resolve. Either that or we choose another word to describe ourselves. I rather like another G word – glorious.”

McKellen also told the school that he felt shows such as Little Britain were not helpful for promoting tolerance for gays.

“I have to confess that I am a little disquieted by the way that gay sare portrayed, particularly on television. I know Matt Lucas will say that he is gay and it is not offensive but I don’t think it gets the right message across. If you are gay, you don’t have to be camp.”

  • Personally I would rather ditch Serena McKellen for being a spokesperson for us all - especially as while I was fighting the barricades of homophobia in the 70's Serena was hiding under a closeted cloak, never to utter a word about gayers, until his voice could be heard at full throttle. Bog off Gandalf! ( . . . hope that's not too camp for Serena ). I must be more str8 acting in future.

A hundred cloned Sir Ian McKellen's speaking on behalf of gay men would be better than one over-opinionated bore under the delusion that his venemous and bitter contribution is wanted.
  • What a frightening prospect - a row of Stonewall Serena Dolls.
