Wanna see a gay bashing?

So, last night (Sunday 23 November) saw the London Borough of Newham, the Met Police, the government and possibly yourself allow gay hate dancehall reggae drag artist Bounty Killer to perform in London.

Bounty Killer advocates the murder of gays (ie me and you and most of your friends) on a number of his songs. He’s been allowed to play in the UK because he’s assured the Met Police that he won’t be performing any homophobic lyrics. Which is kind of him.

The Met Police: “No murder music singer will be allowed to perform unless they sign the Reggae Compassionate Act (RCA) where by singers promise not to incide homophobic hatred and violence.”

But Bounty Killer has refused to sign this act, instead assuring them that he won’t be homophobic. Makes sense doesn’t it?

Anyway – here’s Bounty Killer – definitely not the taste of paradise:

Ben Summerskill, director of Stonewall, added: ‘If you are inciting a serious offence against gay people, then there is a public policy imperative for getting involved and that applies not just to government but to police forces, when you have people encouraging others to commit violence,’ says Ben Summerskill, director of Stonewall.

Peter Tatchell, human rights campaigner, accused Jacqui Smith, Home Secretary of “rewarding a maladjusted thug” after the Home Office gave him a work permit for Britain.

“A white racist singer who advocated killing black people would not be allowed to perform anywhere in London, even if he agreed to not incite the killing of black people at his concert. The police would argue that any stage performance by a white racist singer would risk public disorder and damage community cohesion. They would ban him, full stop,” says Tatchell.

Yet again the lifestyle choice line is trotted out.

Homosexuality does involve a choice. it's choosing whether to accept yourself, allow your family and friends to know who you really are and embrace the opportunity of forging a loving partnership with another man. Or choosing to deny a part of who you are to yourself and others. To live in fear, guilt and shame. To possibly
act out on your desires in situations exposing yourself to danger and self loathing afterwards. There's a reason that gay events are called 'Pride'. It's a rejection of internal shame and the shame that others would project upon us.

As for homosexuality being bad for society? Are you for real?

How is it good for a vulnerable adolescent or young adult who knows that they are different to feel totally unsupported and alone? To know that their family, community, peers, church or whoever who would never accept them. To commit suicide because they feel that there is no way out for them? For their parents to grieve for a child they never really knew.

As for not acting on your homosexual desires and feelings. I definitely men can expect to achieve that indefinitely.. Living a lie is not fair on the wife and children you have to maintain the heteronormative image. What about when that sham marriage collapses and family breakdown ensues? Is this good for society.

When will people like Pete realise that letting gay people just be themselves and live an honest open life is best for everyone?

I'm a white, gay man and as a life long lover of reggae, dub, ragga, dancehall. lover's rock, ska etc..this is something i've though a lot about.
I'm a libertarian....but the truth is that we are none of us free to do exactly what we like, we are free to think what we like but not always act on it or encourage others to do so.
There is a pecking order of offence in this country and usually gay people, jewish people and the disabled are at the bottom of it (remind you of anything? Germany 1938?)
So when we presume we live in a free society with the freedom to say what we like...think again, the truth is some people are freer than others in who they can offend, because (usually) white liberals have a cultural cringe at the thought of criticising a group and being deemed racist or bigotted.
Of course the joke is they don't have to criticise a group....Bounty Killer et al no more speak for all black people than any random gay person on Compton street speak for me.
Bounty Killer is a stupid, dangerous man and I don't want his shit being legitimised by the government i pay for....not unless EVERY bigotted idiot has the same freedoms...and then god help us !

I think their comments should be removed from here this website is supposed to be empowering, supplying stimulating and useful articles and videos for the community. so pete...if you believe homosexuality is a choice,it must then follow that you yourself have all the propensity to be a homosexual also....since it is simply a matter of choice, you must then feel that it is possible for you to invest emotionally and physically in another man,only you simply CHOOSE not to do so on the grounds that you've decided it's 'unnatural'....but it must feel its humanly possible for you,since you see this as a mere choice.

I havn't used the bible for anything other than trying to understand where Bounty Killer is coming from. I'm not a christian by any means so i'm not using the bible to justify anything.
I just don't understand how racism and disagreeing that homosexuality is 'right' are the same thing...
Surely you can understand me without branding me a hateful divider of people.

Pete, do you honestly think someone would CHOOSE to be homosexual in a world full of such hatred and intolerance? Of course not. Maybe it's easier to disguise your sexuality than it is to disguise the colour of your skin, but why should anyone have to do either?

And the Bible was used for centuries to justify slavery, with American slave owners claiming that they were only carrying out God's plan by buying and using slaves... As someone who believes what the Bible says, do you believe that slavery was justified? It was wrong then to use the Bible to justify slavery, and it's wrong now to use the Bible to justify discrimination and violence towards homosexuals.

Seriously Pete, it sounds like God gave you a brain and free will, so whatever the Bible says - and it's all open to interpretation - don't you think you should be exercising them both to spread a little more love and harmony, rather than more division and hatred?

What I am trying to say is that where Bounty Killer is from it is outlawed to be homosexual. In the bible it does state if a man goes with a man he should be put to death..... I personaly think thats wrong but if you do read the bible and you trust the words...and the words are supposedly words from god, then what are you to do? ....this brings up a whole debate about gay clergy...why the hell any homosexual would want to be in the church is beyond me!! How hypercritical can you get!!...anyway...thats another can of worms!!
It IS 2008 and everyone has 'A VIEW' of the world and has their own interpretation between right and wrong...You see, what is right to you is also wrong to a lot of other people. Violence is wrong YES..but is homosexuality right?...You are correct in saying for me it is unnatural and for many others it is totally natural BUT it is also completely natural for a kleptomaniac to steal or for an alchoholic to drink.....natural yes....good for society, not particularly.
Bounty Killer may just be about money...I really dont know (also I think your speculation regarding his bank balance and self gratification lets you down a bit)...But what I do know is there is definatly a market for his music, he IS ALREADY very rich and famous.

Methinks our old friend white liberal guilt is at play here. As Peter Tatchell points out, any singer advocating the killing of black people would be banned, and rightly so. So why make excuses for a black hate monger?
To suggest that it's his culture (man), or that he can't be expected to know better sounds a lot like racism to me. Fact: not all black people advocate killing queers (look at Beverly Knight, who has spoken out about this many times). Those who do are bigots and pose a danger to innocent gay people and should be denied a public platform. It's a clear breach of anti-hate crime laws. Simple.
Oh, and selective readings of the Bible really are a sure sign of a feeble mind. What about the law (also in Leviticus) banning the wearing of clothes made of mixed fibres? I guess that's middle America off to hell in a handcart.
